Brainstorm Meeting

Homeland Security

SE Solutions was founded as a direct response to the September 11th attacks. To help America meet today’s asymmetrical threats, we built a well known leadership team, backed by the industry’s best technology and management consultants – all driven to serve, and fiercely committed to America’s homeland security.

We’ve led dozens of projects across DHS HQ and Component OCIOs, as well as 36 other Federal agencies that share its mission. We’ve seen first-hand what it takes for programs to succeed in this environment – and we’re ready from day one to help you reach your goals.

SE Solutions provides end-to-end management consulting, program support services, and technology and security solutions to Federal agencies in support of their homeland security missions.

Innovation

Our organization is fully-integrated and agile – just as our customers’ programs should be. We’ve developed an approach that synergizes the ingenuity of our engineering practices with our program management methods, so we can help agencies eliminate redundancies and remove stovepipes to ensure success.

Our company-wide Innovation Council is devoted to fusing commercial innovation with homeland security governance. Its team members develop innovative processes and solutions that clients can put into action within weeks – not months or years.

Examples of our creative and innovative solutions include:

Compute, Virtualization, and Storage

Our team for the DHS Technology Insertion Program (TIP) has embraced the task to create an enterprise computing complex to house all DHS and Component HQs activities at a single site. The unique mix of new construction and the adaptive reuse of historical buildings requires flexible IT solutions. Our team’s infrastructure, architecture, design and engineering services have been breaking boundaries on Compute, Virtualization, and Storage solutions, by using a next generation, purpose-built compute and converge fabric architecture. SE Solutions has played a key role in the design and integration of a unique passive optical network access system throughout the campus. Our information assurance (IA) and security engineering support has been essential to the Certification and Accreditation of the campus IT systems, system security engineering and system security plans.

SelfCheck

The Department of Homeland Security's Enterprise Service Delivery Office (ESDO), the division charged with delivery of enterprise scope IT services for DHS, developed the Self Check application in coordination with the US Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) to allow US persons to check their employment eligibility. Our team architected the secure public/private hybrid cloud solution, provided business intelligence on the aggregate nature of its use, and supported the integration of key technologies to provide string authentication of users' identity thereby enabling secure access to personally identifiable information (PII) to enhance government transparency. Secretary Napolitano has lauded the highly successful initiative as an example of efficient government.

Cloud Strategy

We built the foundation of the Department of Homeland Security's cloud strategy by introducing new paradigms of virtualization, automation, and orchestration. We were able to achieve an economy of scale by establishing common development/test and production capabilities. This helped them reduce the development and testing cycle for new applications from weeks to days and the production cycle from months/years to weeks/months.

Emergency Management System

SE Solutions designed and developed a prototype information-sharing system to provide data critical to secure our nation against natural and man-made threats. Participants in the live system demonstration included the greater Los Angeles first responder community, Customs and Border Protection, the Fusion Center in Kansas City, and the DNDO Joint Analysis Center. This prototype will now form the strategy and architecture for a nationwide infrastructure to support data collection of the nation’s nuclear, biological, and chemical detectors and systems.

Balanced Scorecard

SE Solutions developed a dashboard for FEMA to align operations to the vision and strategy of the agency, improve internal and external communications, and monitor organization performance against strategic goals.  We implemented automated processes that captured customer, financial, operational, and technical metrics to measure and report progress toward program objectives. The resulting information presents FEMA with a complete view of their operations and provides feedback around both the internal processes and external outcomes in order to continuously improve strategic performance and results.

Program Dashboards

We helped USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, the public health agency responsible for ensuring the safety of our nation’s food supply, to develop an automated dashboard using the agency’s existing SharePoint software to generate reports and streamline communications across the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). The dashboard provides a one stop location to view key performance indicators for all of the OCIO's critical functions to include budgeting, project management, enterprise architecture, infrastructure, development, customer satisfaction, and staffing. As a result, FSIS’ division manager was able to improve overall operational performance while saving time and costs. In fact, one approval response time was reduced from 80 days down to four, within the first year.
